PSAT/NMSQT & ASVAB

PURPOSE
 
  • THE PSAT familiarizes students with the format, structure, and content of the SAT, helping them prepare for the official college entrance exam.
  • The PSAT/NMSQT is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
  • The ASVAB helps identify individuals with the aptitude for different military jobs and determines if they meet the minimum qualifications for enlistment.
Who Takes It

 

  • The PSAT is primarily taken by sophomores.
  • The PSAT/NMSQT is usually taken by juniors in the fall.
  • The ASVAB is administered to students in grades 10-12, military applicants, and those interested in career exploration

PURPOSE
  • Measure a student's mastery of college-level coursework taken during high school
  • Enable high school students to earn college credit or advanced placement in college courses

  • High school students who have taken an AP course or who want to demonstrate mastery of college level coursework
