Instruction
The Fannin County School System's approach to instruction is a standards-based, student-centered model singularly focused on preparing every student to achieve his/her goals for the next level.
Foundational Instructional Philosophy
The core of instruction is built upon a standards-based learning (SBL) framework where teachers are strategically encouraged to "know their students and know their standards." This dual focus ensures that instruction is highly personalized and effective.
- Standards-Based Learning: Instruction is firmly aligned to standards-based learning, with the primary goal of student achievement through differentiated practice.
- Differentiation: The concept to "know your students" results in instruction that is differentiated at all levels, tailoring the delivery of content and process to meet individual learner needs.
The Curriculum and Its Purpose
The system-wide curriculum is designed to be academically rich, holistic, and student-centered,, setting high expectations for both teachers and students.
- Core Content Consistency: The K-12 curriculum ensures that all students learn the same core of significant content at a specific instructional level, maintaining consistency from teacher to teacher and school to school.
- Beyond Testing: While curricular objectives align with the Georgia Standards and state-mandated tests, the overriding goal is to create a robust, inclusive curriculum that honors input from all stakeholders.
- "Thinking Curriculum": The system utilizes a "thinking curriculum" that purposefully integrates content and process and typifies real-world situations to result in meaningful student learning.
- Research-Based Alignment: Instructional decisions, strategies, and practices are rooted in internal and external research to ensure optimum learning opportunities and align the written, taught, and tested curriculum.
STEM/STEAM
“STEM and STEAM are about more than just an acronym. STEM and STEAM bring out the best in education: community partnerships, hands-on learning, and real-world experiences that are designed to help students master standards and prepare for our evolving workforce” (GaDOE definition)
