Questions and Answers Regarding the Automated Calling System
The Fannin County School System utilizes an automated calling system to keep families and school personnel informed of important information.
How does the calling system know your telephone numbers? The telephone numbers dialed by the automated calling system are exported daily from our district’s student information system, Infinite Campus. To avoid missing calls, as well as other communications regarding your child, you should contact his/her school whenever any of your information changes. What numbers are dialed during an automated call?
There are two types of automated calls: 1) Routine and 2) Emergency. During routine calls, the system dials only the primary telephone number on file for your family. If you have the caller ID service, you will see the information for your child's school or the central office when receiving a routine call. Emergency calls are initiated only by the school district's central office. These calls are typically reserved for urgent matters, such as an unscheduled closing or early release due to inclement weather. Both the primary and secondary numbers that are on file for your child are dialed during an emergency call. Those with caller ID will see "411" when this type of call is received. Why did the message end shortly after starting or never begin?
Automated calls should be answered in quiet environment. If you subscribe to caller ID and know the automated calling system is calling, simply answer the phone with "hello." If you answer in a noisy environment, the system may confuse the background noise for an answering device and pause. If a message is interrupted, you may press "1" to restart it. Why do some answering devices record only part of a message? If the greeting on the answering device does not begin soon enough after answering, or if the greeting's voice is too quiet, the automated calling system may interpret this as a live person and begin its message. As a result, much (or all) of the automated system's announcement may be finished by the time your device begins to record. It is recommended that your answering device's greeting be recorded in a voice that is loud, clear, and without any pauses.
What if you miss the information in an automated call? The school district maintains an emergency information line to keep you informed: 706-946-FCSS (3277). This line is updated when an emergency automated call is initiated to announce a closing, delay, unscheduled release, or other urgent matter.
The main page of the school system's website – www.fannin.k12.ga.us – is updated with important announcements, including automated calls from the district. In addition, the schools often post the information from routine calls they initiate on their individual websites. Click on the "Schools" tab on the district webpage to access each individual school's website.
Finally, urgent announcements are shared, as needed, with area television and radio stations for public broadcast. To ensure that you receive all communications from your child's school and the district, it is important to have updated information on file. If you need to update your contact information, please be sure to notify your child’s school as soon as possible.
